Cool Off and Hike at the Ath Thawarah Hot Springs, Near Rustaq Oman
This is a local favorite area to enjoy some family time, and cool off in the natural springs of the wadi. Don’t let the name distract you, it’s really not a “Hot” spring, more of a nice temperature to dip in.
There is also a small waterfall area for the kids (and adults) to enjoy. When you walk through the water, some small fish will give you a free pedicure. It feels weird at first, but it seems to be a local favorite form of enjoyment.
There is also a covered picnic area with benches, however it’s much more fun to grab a mat and some food and picnic under a shady tree to people watch.
Â
After eating, enjoy some activities and some good rock climbing. Keep going through the wadi, past the boulders and the water. On your left, there is a trail up the mountain with some rocks walls that looked like they were placed there on purpose. This part of the trail is a little more difficult for climbing.
We also saw a donkey along the way and some goats as well. You can hike quite a ways inside the wadi, but make sure you pack some water and snacks if you plan to stay a while.
There was a man with a silver contraption he wore on his back. He looked like it was from India possibly. He said it was fig juice, so of course I had a try. It was sweet like grape juice. There is also an ice cream booth and a coffee/tea shop on the corner.
- Hints: It’s VERY slippery on the rocks here, wear good water shoes. Be careful when you are hiking, I put my hand down on a rock to brace myself, and a wooden BBQ stick went in through my fingers. Please pick up your trash, there is a lot of trash, but the ministry is working hard to try and get this under control.
